Welcome to Maplewood Family Dental
Life gets busy, and dental appointments are easy to push down the priority list until something forces the issue. At Maplewood Family Dental, Dr. Kevin Chidester, DMD has built a practice that gives you every reason to stop postponing and start showing up. Patients across the area choose this office because they walk out actually understanding their oral health, not just nodding along to information that went over their heads.
Dr. Chidester’s approach is rooted in something straightforward: people take better care of themselves when someone takes the time to explain why it matters. That philosophy drives every appointment, every recommendation, and every interaction at this office. If you’ve been searching for a dentist in Clayton NC who treats you like a person with real questions and a real schedule, this is where that search ends.

Our Mission
Most people don’t dislike dentistry. They dislike feeling out of the loop during it. Maplewood Family Dental was built to close that gap. Dr. Kevin Chidester, DMD structured this practice around one core belief: the dental experience improves dramatically when patients are brought into the conversation rather than talked at during it.
That means your dental checkup isn’t just a procedural box to check. It’s a two-way exchange where your questions get direct answers, your digital x-rays get explained in real language, and your treatment options are laid out clearly enough that you can make decisions you actually feel good about. Personalized care isn’t an upsell here. It’s the baseline expectation for every person who walks through the door.
Our Services
Clear Aligners
Straightening your smile doesn’t have to mean a mouth full of metal brackets and wires. We provide clear aligners through ClearCorrect and Simply Clear, reliable options that blend into your everyday routine with ease. At Maplewood Family Dental, our goal is to make orthodontic care feel approachable, affordable, and tailored to what each patient actually needs.
Getting started is straightforward. We take a close look at your teeth and listen to your concerns before recommending anything. Our dentist then maps out a realistic path to your ideal smile using custom aligner trays built around your timeline. We stay involved throughout so you always know exactly where you stand.
Cleanings/Hygiene Department
Consistent preventive care is what separates patients who rarely need major dental work from those who always seem to have something urgent to address. Our hygiene department creates a structured, welcoming environment where showing up every six months feels less like an obligation and more like a smart investment in your health. Maplewood Family Dental is where patients become regulars and where being a regular genuinely pays off over time.
Each visit, our dentist partners with our hygiene team to review how your mouth has changed since your last appointment and address anything worth monitoring. We remove hardened buildup, assess your gum tissue, and leave you with practical guidance tailored to what your smile actually needs right now. Coming back twice a year keeps us in your corner consistently, so nothing has the chance to quietly progress unnoticed.
Implants
A single missing tooth can quietly shift how you bite, how neighboring teeth sit, and how confident you feel day to day. Implants address that problem at the root level, literally, by replacing the entire tooth structure rather than just the visible crown. At Maplewood Family Dental, we see this as one of the most meaningful treatments we offer because the impact on a patient’s quality of life is real and lasting.
Our dentist takes time to understand your full dental picture before any treatment begins, ensuring implants are both safe and appropriate for you. We walk alongside you through every appointment, making sure discomfort and uncertainty stay minimal. What you’re left with is a strong, permanent addition to your smile that looks natural and requires no extra upkeep.
Crowns
Some teeth reach a point where everyday pressure leaves them vulnerable to further damage without added support. Crowns step in as a long-term solution, capping the tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance in one reliable restoration. At Maplewood Family Dental, we use digital scanning and premium materials to make sure every crown we place looks natural and performs well under real daily use.
Before moving forward, our dentist takes a close look at your tooth and explains exactly what the treatment involves and what you can expect during recovery. We tailor each crown to your bite and the specific demands of that tooth’s position in your mouth. The finish is a comfortable, seamless restoration that lets you eat, speak, and smile without giving it a second thought.
Same Day Fillings
Putting off a cavity treatment often turns a minor issue into a much bigger one, and we want to make saying yes to care as easy as possible. With same day fillings, we handle everything in one appointment — no temporary restorations, no return visits, no unnecessary waiting. Maplewood Family Dental keeps the process efficient without cutting corners on the quality of your result.
Our dentist carefully clears out the affected area and fills it with a composite material selected to match the natural tone of your surrounding teeth. The restoration bonds firmly to your tooth, reinforcing its structure while restoring its original function and appearance. Most patients find the experience far quicker and more comfortable than they anticipated, and leave with full confidence in their smile.
Same Day Extractions
Not every troubled tooth can be saved, and when removal is the right call, delaying it only allows pain and potential infection to worsen. Same day extractions give patients a faster path to relief, handling the full procedure in one visit rather than stretching it across multiple appointments. Maplewood Family Dental keeps this option available because we know that when something hurts, waiting simply isn’t a reasonable ask.
Our dentist takes a close look at the tooth, surrounding tissue, and any relevant imaging to confirm the safest and most effective approach before anything begins. We make sure you’re fully comfortable and informed at every stage, from the initial assessment through the moment you’re ready to head home. Clear recovery guidance goes home with you so the healing process stays on track with as little disruption to your routine as possible.

Why Choose Us

Meet the Doctor
Dr. Kevin Chidester, DMD came to dentistry through a path that involved real academic investment in understanding how the body works, not just the teeth. He completed his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University-Idaho, then went further and earned a master’s in Biomedical Science from Mississippi College in 2018 before going on to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston for his dental degree.
That scientific grounding shows up directly in how he practices. He’s affiliated with the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Ensign Academy of Dentistry, and the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health — organizations that reflect both clinical standards and a broader view of wellness that connects dental care to overall health outcomes.
No insurance – our patients don’t need any. Preventative care for a low monthly rate.

FAQs
What makes cone beam 3D imaging worth it compared to standard dental x-rays?
Standard dental X-rays produce flat, two-dimensional images. Cone beam 3D imaging captures your jaw structure, tooth roots, and bone density in full three-dimensional detail, which matters most when planning dental implants, oral surgery, or anything involving jaw structure. Better diagnostic information upfront means fewer complications once treatment is underway.
How does Dr. Chidester's background in biomedical science shape his approach to care?
Before dental school at Tufts, Dr. Chidester earned a master’s in Biomedical Science at Mississippi College. That training built a deeper understanding of how oral health connects to the body as a whole, not just individual teeth. It’s reflected in his membership with the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health and in how he frames treatment conversations with patients.
What's the difference between ClearCorrect aligners and traditional braces?
ClearCorrect uses removable, nearly invisible trays instead of brackets and wires. They come out for eating and brushing, which most patients find significantly easier to manage day-to-day. Whether they’re the right fit depends on the complexity of your case, and Dr. Chidester can assess that during a consultation.
How does The Wand make local anesthesia more tolerable?
Most injection discomfort comes from the speed and pressure of fluid delivery, not the needle itself. The Wand controls both automatically, keeping delivery slow and consistent. Patients who have always dreaded that part of a dental procedure typically notice a real difference.
