Welcome to Maplewood Family Dental
Your dental health touches more of your daily life than most people realize, your confidence when you smile, your ability to eat comfortably, even your overall physical wellness. Dr. Kevin Chidester, DMD understands that, and it shapes how care is delivered at Maplewood Family Dental every single day.
Patients looking for a dentist in Zebulon NC and the surrounding communities come here because they want a practice that engages with them as individuals, not just as a set of teeth to check off a list. The practice has earned a reputation for being thorough without being intimidating, knowledgeable without being condescending, and warm in a way that makes returning feel easy rather than obligatory.

Our Mission
Dentistry works best when patients are genuinely involved in their own care, and that only happens when your dentist takes the time to make things clear. Dr. Kevin Chidester, DMD structured Maplewood Family Dental around that principle from day one. Open communication is not a courtesy here; it is the foundation that every appointment is built on.
You will always know what was found during your exam, why a particular treatment is being suggested, and what your options actually are. The practice is driven by a commitment to preventive dental care that keeps problems small and manageable, and to oral healthcare that accounts for your whole health picture, not just the condition of a single tooth.
Our Services
Clear Aligners
Maplewood Family Dental helps patients achieve straighter smiles using clear aligners from ClearCorrect and Simply Clear — effective alternatives to metal braces. These virtually invisible trays are removable, so eating and oral hygiene stay hassle-free during treatment. Our dentist designs a personalized plan based on your specific alignment needs and timeline.
We begin with a simple consultation to evaluate your smile and determine the best path forward. From there, you’ll progress through a series of custom-fitted trays that gradually move your teeth into position. We check in regularly to track your progress and keep your treatment on schedule.
Cleanings/Hygiene Department
A lot can change in six months, which is why returning to our cleanings/hygiene department twice a year gives us the opportunity to monitor your oral health continuously and intervene early when needed. Professional cleanings remove buildup that brushing and flossing simply can’t reach, reducing your risk of cavities and gum problems between visits. Our dentist checks in at each appointment to review your progress and address anything that needs attention.
Maplewood Family Dental structures each visit to be thorough yet efficient, respecting your time while making sure your smile gets the care it deserves. We keep detailed records from every appointment so we can spot trends, compare findings, and personalize our recommendations as your needs evolve. Scheduling your next cleaning before you leave ensures you stay on track, because building that twice-yearly habit is the single most effective thing you can do for your long-term oral health.
Implants
Dental implants are one of the most effective ways to replace missing teeth, offering a stable, long-term solution that preserves jawbone health and maintains your smile’s natural appearance. Each implant is surgically placed into the bone, acting as an artificial root that supports a custom crown above the gumline. Our dentist carefully reviews your dental X-rays and medical history to determine if implants are the right fit for you.
From your first consultation through final placement, Maplewood Family Dental ensures every step is straightforward and comfortable. We space appointments strategically to allow proper osseointegration, the process where the implant bonds securely with your bone. Once complete, you’re left with a durable, fully functional tooth that requires no special maintenance beyond regular brushing and flossing.
Crowns
When a tooth is too damaged for a simple filling but still worth saving, crowns provide the structural support needed to restore full function and a natural appearance. Our dentist evaluates the extent of damage and selects the most suitable material to match the strength and aesthetics of your surrounding teeth. Using digital impression technology, we capture accurate measurements that result in a precise, well-fitting restoration every time.
The treatment is straightforward and typically completed over two visits at Maplewood Family Dental. During the first appointment, we prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown while your permanent one is being crafted. Once ready, your final crown is secured in place, built to handle everyday biting and chewing with lasting durability.
Same Day Fillings
Tooth decay is common, but addressing it promptly keeps small problems from turning into larger, more costly ones down the road. Same day fillings allow us to remove damaged tissue and place a durable, tooth-colored restoration all within one appointment — no follow-up visit required. Our dentist selects a composite shade that integrates naturally with your existing teeth for a seamless, undetectable finish.
At Maplewood Family Dental, we prioritize your comfort throughout the entire procedure, keeping the process gentle and efficient from the first numbing injection to final polishing. We bond the resin directly to the tooth surface, reinforcing its structure while restoring its original shape and function. Walking out the same day with a fully treated tooth means you spend less time in the chair and more time living your life.
Same Day Extractions
Some teeth reach a point where removal is the healthiest path forward, whether due to advanced decay, overcrowding, or an acute infection that needs immediate attention. Our dentist thoroughly examines the affected area and reviews imaging before proceeding, ensuring the decision to extract is fully informed and necessary. We administer local anesthetic carefully so you remain comfortable and relaxed from start to finish.
Booking a same day extraction at Maplewood Family Dental means you get answers and treatment without the stress of being turned away or rescheduled. The procedure itself is straightforward, and we work efficiently to minimize your time in the chair. Before you leave, we review your recovery plan in detail so you know exactly how to care for the site and what to watch for as you heal.

FAQs
How does good oral hygiene at home connect to what happens at the dentist?
Daily brushing and flossing are your first line of defense against tooth decay and gum disease, but they only go so far. Professional cleanings remove buildup that even the most disciplined oral hygiene routine cannot reach on its own. Think of your at-home habits and your dental visits as working together, one reinforces the other. Patients who stay consistent with both tend to need far less corrective treatment over time.
What role does preventive care play in avoiding bigger dental problems?
Preventive dental care is essentially early detection in action. When small issues like minor decay or early gum inflammation are caught during a routine visit, they are almost always simpler and less costly to address than if they had been left to progress. Disease prevention in dentistry is not about being overly cautious; it is about protecting the investment you have already made in your smile.
How do digital x-rays and imaging improve the care you receive?
Dental x-rays give our dentist a view of what cannot be seen during a visual exam alone, decay between teeth, bone changes, or developing issues beneath the gum line. Digital X-rays used here emit significantly less radiation than traditional film and produce images that can be reviewed with you immediately. That real-time visibility means findings get explained on the spot rather than after the fact, supporting the kind of open communication this practice is built around.
Can a dentist really affect my overall health, not just my teeth?
Research continues to strengthen the link between oral health and systemic conditions. Bacteria from untreated gum disease, for example, can enter the bloodstream and contribute to inflammation elsewhere in the body. Oral healthcare is not a separate category from general wellness; it is part of the same picture. A dental professional who understands that connection will approach your care with your full health in mind, not just the condition of individual teeth.
What should I know before getting teeth whitening done professionally?
Professional teeth whitening delivers results that over-the-counter products rarely match, largely because the concentration and delivery method are more controlled and consistent. Before beginning, our dentist will assess your enamel and address any existing decay or sensitivity issues that could affect the process. A quick consultation is the best way to set realistic expectations and determine which whitening option fits your situation.
